Health and Safety Manager
Summary of Position

Reporting to the Head of SHEQ, the Health and Safety Manager is responsible for the end to end health & safety function for various fixed line telecoms projects. This will naturally involve partnering with operations personnel and ensuring that service delivery functions are executed in line with the highest safety standards possible.
This is a pivotal role within the SHEQ department and the Health and Safety Manager will manage a team of SHEQ advisers, a safety executive and an administrator. The incumbent will drive the safety agenda forward, ensuring that risk is minimised and best practices are to the forefront across the fixed line division.
The following list of responsibilities, tasks and duties is indicative and not exhaustive:-
- Responsible for the health and safety function for various fixed line projects and works
- Manages a team of SHEQ advisers, ensuring that audits are completed in line with requirements, accidents and incidents reports are completed in a timely manner and are to a high standard, tool box talks are completed, crew inductions and training is completed per requirements
- Partners with key operations personnel, including senior managers and provides a project lead input from H&S perspective
- Supports Head of SHEQ department with a number of H&S projects
- Supervises the SHEQ administration function for the fixed line division
- Develops SHEQ staff, supporting career progression plans
- Understands all aspects of the SHEQ administrative systems
- Ensures safety reports for clients and senior management are provided on time and in line with expectations
- Completes risk assessment as required
- Assesses method statements and ensures they are fit for purpose and designed to minimise risk
- Ensures that various trackers are maintained, including the SHEQ audit tracker. Ensures that reminders are sent out proactively and audits are completed and returned. Sends out audit completion status reports weekly and monthly.
- Assists the Head of SHEQ in developing safety plans
- Tracks risk assessment completions on a weekly basis. Ensures that reminders are sent to crews to complete their risk assessments as may be required
- Responds to queries on audit data, providing summary reports to management as may be required
- Ensures that tool box talks are documented and tracked, and that relevant systems are maintained up to date with tool box talk training material and attendances
- Supervises the maintenance of tool box talk training material
- Updates the Integrated Management System (IMS) as required
- Manages SHEQ data and client data requirements directly on client SHEQ systems
- Supports the completion of incident and accident investigations, ensuring that root cause factors are tracked and closed by the relevant personnel
- Prepares ad hoc reports as may be required by senior management
- Prepares weekly and monthly data reports as may be required by senior management
- Supports the ISO programme – assists the quality manager with administrative duties associated with the maintenance of the company’s ISO certifications
- Assists with the maintenance and updating of safety statements, risk assessments, methods statements, training records
- Updates the HSA online reporting system as may be required.
- Completes other ad hoc tasks from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- Degree level H&S education preferred
- Excellent organisational skills
- Minimum of five years SHEQ experience in a construction, telecoms, power or similar industry
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Competent in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of SHEQ software systems or equivalent
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with teams, contractors and auditors
